A housewarming party can be as casual or extravagant as you wish. There are no rules to it, but we do have some suggestions on how to make it memorable. Here are some ideas on how to throw a housewarming party both you and your guests will love.
Housewarming Party Ideas and Tips
What type of party?
First off, you’ll want to decide what type of party you want to throw. Will it be something casual with drinks and appetizers, a formal dinner party, or do you want to go all out and throw a themed party? Once you’ve decided, the type of party will determine how far in advance you need to start planning, what kind of food you’ll want to serve, and other things like décor and activities.
Send out invites
Once you’ve figured out the date and what kind of party you’ll be having, send out the invites as soon as possible so people can block out the time. There are lots of online services now that will send out paper or email invites for you with plenty of adorable templates to choose from. In the invites, be sure to include directions to your new place and maybe even a photo of the front so your friends and family know what to look for.
Welcome friends of friends
If you are moving to a new area, a great idea is to encourage your guests to invite anyone they know in the area so you can start meeting new people. You may even want to extend the invitation to your neighbors if you are comfortable with it.
Put together a great playlist
Music is a great component for getting the party going or even just supplying some nice background noise to make everyone more comfortable. Put together a playlist ahead of time so you don’t have to scramble for some music as the party is starting.
Make it smell good
If the weather is nice, open the windows and let the fresh air in. You can also place some candles around to give your home a beautiful scent that will make your guests feel relaxed, as well as provide a nice ambiance.
Do group tours
If you want to show your friends and family around the new house, it can get time-consuming to give each person an individual tour. Instead, plan a few group tours throughout the duration of the party so you can take multiple people around at once.
Leave out a guest book
Put a guest book by the front door so your guests can sign it as they leave, and put a note nearby asking them for their favorite neighborhood recommendations, such as entertainment, restaurants, shopping, classes, and services such as contractors, house cleaning, etc. They will be happy to share and you’ll have a book full of things to try!
