Follow these business relocation tips to have the best possible moving experience for your company.
Business Relocation Tips
Create a Timeline and To-Do List
The most important part of any move is being organized. Two invaluable assets to that organization are a timeline and to-do list so you unlikely to forget anything important.
First, figure out every task that needs to be completed before, during, and after the move, from preparing for the process to settling into the new office. Then, create your timeline based on your to-do list. Be sure to take note of any important obligations or projects your business has going on. Are there any projects that need to be completed before the move? Will the move conflict with any other important commitments?
Weekends are best for moving a business since most businesses don’t operate on the weekends so it won’t conflict with your schedule or inconvenience clients or customers.
Hold a Meeting
Once you’ve decided to move, hold a meeting to announce it and let everyone know the timeline so they can plan accordingly. It’s also good to assign tasks early on to employees who can help with certain aspects of the move such as packing, contacting clients, and setting up the new space. Be sure to keep everyone updated throughout the process, especially if anything changes.
Hire the Right People
As a business owner, you’re aware of how important it is to hire the right people to get a job done well. While moving on your own is possible, it can be huge, stressful undertaking when you’re also trying to run your business at the same time. To alleviate that responsibility, hire movers to take care of it for you.
At Megan’s Moving, we pack up your office, move everything with the highest level of care, and then set up your new office so you can get back to work as soon as possible. When you don’t have to focus on every aspect of the move, you can keep all your attention on your business so the relocation is as seamless as possible.
Plan the Layout
Instead of waiting until moving day to figure out where everything is going to go, save time by getting the blue prints and floor plan to organize it ahead of time. You should also plan the decor in case anything needs to be done before moving in, such as painting walls, purchasing furniture (especially if you’re expanding), and even renovations such as adding walls or electrical outlets.
Implement Any Renovations
Give yourself plenty of time to find the right contractors, electricians, and other professionals and give them time to implement any major changes you want to make to the new work space. You definitely don’t want to end up moving into a space that is only partly finished. Doing renovations while you are trying to run a business in the space can cause a lot of issues, so get it all done ahead of time.
Set-up Services
Telephone and internet service is crucial to keeping a business running smoothly. Set up all of your utilities and services in advance to make sure everything is ready to go on moving day so there are no interruptions.
Update Address
Just like when you move house, there are several places where you’ll need to update your business address. This includes professional documents like your business license and insurance, as well as marketing materials like your website and social media. People need to be able to find your business once you’ve moved.
Contact Everyone
Send out a notice to clients, customers, colleagues, vendors, and anyone else that you do business with to let them know about the new location. Announce it on your website and social media and also send out a notice to your email list and/or mailing list. Make them aware of the date in which you’ll be making the move at least a month in advance and then contact them again once the move has taken place.
A great idea is to hold an office warming party. Celebrate the move and get everyone associated with the new location with a festive gathering to create a positive energy around it from the get-go, not to mention drum up some excitement for the business itself.
