Moving to Orlando: A Guide to West Orlando Neighborhoods

Next up on our tour of places to live in Orlando is west Orlando neighborhoods. Home to many elegant estates, most of these neighborhoods are affluent and suburban. If you are looking for luxury living, you’re likely to find the right neighborhood in west Orlando. There are many options for lakeside living. The demographic of homeowners in this area is between the ages of 47-53, and the majority of people in these neighborhoods own their homes. A lot of families live in this area as well. There are many highly-rated schools in these neighborhoods. 

Doctor Phillips

Doctor Phillips is a suburban neighborhood with many upscale residential subdivisions. The average age of homeowners in this area is 53, and most residents own their homes.  The Dr. Phillips neighborhood includes the majority of Spring Lake. It’s also nearby Little Sand Lake.

Although suburban, the neighborhood is nearby a centrally located strip on Sand Lake that has many businesses, shopping destinations, and professional services. This strip also has a wonderful selection of restaurants — both upscale and casual. Orlandoans often refer to this row of restaurants as “Restaurant Row”. This neighborhood is very close to I-drive and the Universal theme parks. It’s a great location for families with many things to do for all ages.

The top public schools serving this neighborhood are Orlando Science Middle/ High Charter School, Orlando Science Elementary Charter School, Dr. Phillips Elementary School, and Dr. Phillips High School.

Metro West

Metro West is a master-planned community with an urban feel. Many young professionals live in this neighborhood, and residents tend to be liberal. Most residents rent their homes. This neighborhood has some of the most affordable options out of the west Orlando neighborhoods. It’s a diverse neighborhood with a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and townhomes.

The top public schools that serve this area are Olympia High School, Windy Ridge School, Oakland Avenue Charter School, and Hope Charter School.

Bay Hill

Bay Hill is home to a world-famous residential golf community. The Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Club and Lodge is located here and has a breathtaking golf course. This rural neighborhood is positioned on the Eastern shore of Lake Tibet, a 1070-acre lake connected to the Butler Chain of lakes. This neighborhood is highly sought out for its beautiful lakefront homes.

Windermere

Windermere is technically its own city but still considered part of metro Orlando. It offers residents a sparse suburban feel. Most residents own their homes and tend to lean conservative. It is a very affluent neighborhood with many million-dollar homes. It is bordered by large lakes including Lake Butler and Lake Down. Many famous athletes have lived in this neighborhood.

Lake Butler Sound

Located in Windermere, FL is a very exclusive neighborhood called Lake Butler Sound. This neighborhood is a very upscale guard-gated community. It is a very peaceful and tranquil neighborhood, with beautiful Lake Butler in the center. Although private and secluded, it’s still close to many of Orlando’s great attractions. It offers some of the finest luxury homes and amenities in the area. An elite team of award-winning builders created these gorgeous estates and mansions.

Gotha

Gotha is a small rural community. It is located geographically in the center of Central Florida between Ocoee and Windermere. This neighborhood was founded by a German immigrant and many German American families live in this area. The homes in this area reflect Old Florida Charm.
